In recent years, the research achievements of pedagogy have been absorbed in oral TCFL textbooks, among which the Communicative Language Teaching plays a crucial role in the compilation of oral textbooks. According to data, CLT has been dominant in the compilation of text books since 1990s. Thus, this paper chooses to analyze and study two textbooks from the perspective of CLT, i.e. Elementary Spoken Chinese Textbook and Development Chinese. This paper consists of four parts besides the introduction and conclusion.The introduction part makes clear the aim and significance of this topic, the object of study and the research status of this topic at home and abroad.In the first chapter, we elaborate the connotation of CLT from its basic ideas, theoretical rationale and characteristics. Integrating the constitutive principles of CLT with the basic compiling principles of oral TCFL textbooks, we ascertain the internal evaluation criteria for appraising CLT textbooks, i.e. practicality, authenticity, playfulness, diversity, integrity and communicative characteristic.Taking the texts in both textbooks as the starting point, the second chapter observes carefully the way the texts in the two textbooks are compiled. The playfulness of the text topics, the authenticity of the corpus and content of the texts are also explored. In addition, we see into the communicative characteristic of the text language as well.In Chapter 3, statistics will be gathered separately about the textbook exercises which are divided into four parts specific to vocabulary, sentences, dialogues and passages. Based on the outcome of the statistics, an analysis will be made on whether the exercises in both textbooks embody the compiling principles of teaching materials using CLT.On the basis of previous three chapters, the fourth chapter puts forward our ideas and suggestions on the compilation of oral TCFL textbooks under the inspiration of CLT.
