Learning to contract well with cross-sex friend is helpful to promote student's socialization and development of mental health, and it is an important link of psychological quality education in adolescence. Questionnaire has been adopted in this study to explore the influence of parenting styles and gender role consciousness on cross-sex friendships behaviour of high school students.Six hundred students were randomly selected in three high schools, which are in Wuhan and Yichang and Enshi. Questionnaires were conducted to them, and on one of them to 515 valid questionnaires were statistically analyzed.Results of the research are:(1) In general, the attitude and the behavior of cross-sex friendships on high school students is pute and positive. The differcnce of some dimensions on gender, original area student, etc.is significant.Schooboys are more active than schoolgirls, and more persecute than schoolgirls. Students from city have a higher lever of cross-sex friendships than students from country.(2) Dual-gender types and undifferentiated types are in the highest flight on high school students gender roles, which are ranked from high to low for Dual-gender type, undifferentiated type, feminine type and masculine type. Different types of gender roles in attitude and behavior of cross-sex friendship of high school students are significantly difference in some dimension. Dual-gender types and masculine types is an ideal gender role type. Parents' emotional warmth and understanding is useful to individual to form dual-gender type.(3) Some dimension of parenting style are certain influenced by gender of high school studernts, whether they are the only child, original area for students, cultural degree of parents, family economic income,etc. (4) The attitude and the behavior of cross-sex friendships on high school students is significantly correlated with gender traits of high school students and parenting style,but the correlation coefficients are low. The attitude and the behavior of cross-sex friendships on high school students is forecasted by masculinity and mother upbringing,and the predictors are 10.3% and 8.9%. The research hypothesis that the attitude and the behavior of cross-sex friendships on high school students is influenced by parenting styles by means of consciousness of gender role as intervening variable is false.
