With China's rapid economic growth and opening up wider and wider to the outside world, more and more foreign products are seeking to seize the Chinese market, which leads to the growing demands for the translation of product instruction in English. However, the current Chinese market is flooded with a large number of bad translations. These bad translations not only greatly affect product applications and sales, but exert a negative influence on the image of the producer. Therefore, the thesis, through analyzing two translations in product instruction, tries to explain that the main translation strategies adopted during product instruction translation are literal translation, free translation and translation standardization. Due to distinctive language and style features of product instruction, the most commonly used strategy is literal translation. But in some cases, the original text cannot be translated by just adopting literal translation, or the translated text is plain and boring. From these two aspects the thesis analyzes free translation is better than literal translation. At last, by analyzing the translation should be consistent with the style features of product instruction and not have the"translationese", the thesis concludes that translation standardization is one of the main translation strategies in product instruction translation. Finally, the author hopes that the simple analysis of the three translation strategies in the thesis will serve as a reference for the translation practices in this field.
