Our country is a united multiracial country, which nations have their own peculiar character. National art and culture of Tujia Nationality, as an important component part of Chinese culture, is Tujia people's wisdom crystallization explored and improved from generation to generation. The art of decorative sculpture of Tujia nationality is one miracle of Tujia art and culture, which understanding and application on color is the soul place. Because of special geographical location, natural environment, particular national folkways and customs, the specialization of history and cultural background, the color art of Tujia decorative sculpture is retained with its unique nationality. That will provide modern sculpture design with lots of design inspiration and resources.With the development of society, human's cultural psychology and lifestyle habits have already changed greatly; the color art of Tujia's traditional sculpture handed down from ancient times has faded down gradually; and with few artists of traditional folk, the color art of Tujia's traditional sculpture is risking great heritage crisis. So for the study on the color art of Tujia's traditional sculpture, it's imminent to find a corresponding way to solve this crisis.The art of Tujia's decorative sculpture has various forms of expression, rich colors and content. Starting from its characteristic, according to practical investigation, this thesis collects a huge mass of image and literal materials; classifies scientifically and systematically on Tujia's decorative sculpture, with special geographical environments, natural situation and religious belief of Tujia settlement; and analyses on the color of Tujia's decorative sculpture. And puts forward how to protect and develop the color art of Tujia's decorative sculpture in the future. The main results are organized as the following.(1) Based on the present study on national color at home and abroad, and combined the development trend of modern sculpture art, the thesis puts forward research purpose, content and elaborate way. (2) Description on Tujia's decorative sculpture. According to Tujia's customs, religious belief and production and living, this thesis studies it from characteristic and classification deeply. Through to the practical investigation on Tujia settlement, the writer truly felt profound historical and cultural connotation, self-renewal spirit contained in Tujia decorative sculpture; and felt Tujia's efforts towards loving motherland and inheriting folk art.(3) Through to the detailed analysis on the forming reason of Tujia's decorative sculpture color, the thesis concluded typical color of Tujia decorative sculpture and other colors; and analyses it from color esthetics forming. That concluded color's important position in Tujia's decorative sculpture; and made a great base for the study in the future.(4) According to present development trend of sculpture art, the thesis put forward the revelation of color art of Tujia's decorative sculpture for the modern sculpture art; and put forward suggestions on a series of problems in protecting and developing the color art of Tujia decorative sculpture.Achieving heritage and develop of the color art of Tujia's decorative sculpture in rapid developing society is this thesis's intention and significance. According to this analyses on the art of Tujia's decorative sculpture, the writer hopes that this thesis could arouse extensive attention on the heritage of color form and the development of fold art.
