Vietnam War (1961-1973) and the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989) have close relationship with the ease and confrontation of American and Soviet Union during the Cold War. If the involvement in Vietnam and Afghanistan is the military confrontation between the US-Soviet Cold War, it is the peak of ease when troops withdraw from Vietnam and Afghanistan. The present research is focused on these two wars and the progresses of the intervention. From the perspective of comparison on American troops withdrawal from Vietnam and Soviet troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, the paper tries to figure out how the military struggle by the high tide to low tide during the Cold War, and concludes the common essence of two wars.This paper contains four parts, introduction, body, conclusion and reference. Body consists of three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to introduce the U.S. withdrawal of international and domestic backgrounds. Comparing the backgrounds of American and Soviet's troops withdrawal, it reveals a different backgroud of offensive and defensive posture during American and Soviet's troops withdrawal and similar impacts from the domestic and international backgrounds. The second chapter means to analyse the process of US-Soviet negotiations to troops withdraw from many-faced respective. Similarities between American and Soviet's troops withdrawal are that troops withdrawl of the negotiations are conditional withdrawl.The difference is that China, Pakistan play different roles in the negotiations. Chapter three analyses the influence on American and Soviet troops withdrawal.Presently, many new perspectives will help us to know about the two wars and understand them two more completely and clearly. Nowadays, it is worthy for us to analyse on the two wars. Meanwhile, it can be a reference to Afghanistan's volatile situation and the development in Vietnam.
