There are five aspects of skills training in the acquisition of second language: listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. From the perspective of language communication, speaking is especially important. This paper has illustrated the current status of oral Chinese teaching as a foreign language and makes an attempt of teaching reform on the bases of the important status of oral language classes and questionnaires and interviews among the students and teachers of primary level classes of Chinese as a second language. The task-based Language Teaching (TBLT),which was brought forward in 1980's by foreign language teachers and researchers who did much research and practice, is a new language-teaching theory with strong influence. In recent 20 years, it is a development form of communication teaching thought. This theory obeys the principle of "Learning by doing", and transfers the basic idea of language performance into teaching mode with practical meaning. In light of literature reading, the paper discusses the origin and the developing history of TBLT, reviews and analyses its theoretical foundations and core concepts, clarifies its feature and procedures, and discusses its task type and design principle.According to the teaching mode of TBLT, take oral Chinese teaching in primary stage for example, with action research this paper collects feedback from students, summarizes the teaching experiments and points out the potential problems in teachers and students' requirements and practice in class with TBLT. Finally, this paper points out that taking the advantages of TBLT in teaching course to serve for oral Chinese teaching will further improve class teaching of oral Chinese teaching as a second language and Chinese communication abilities of learners.
