A Research Of The Correlation Of Prisoners' Suicidal Ideation, Depression, Social Support And Its Intervention

Nowadays, suicide is social and public health problem which urgently all aspects ofconcern to solve. As a special social group, prisoners due to with the multiple effects ofsubjective and objective environmental factors such as personality traits, the free entangled,social alienation, the suicide rate is3-4times to the general population. Suicide ideation is asubjective premise of suicidal behavior, the study of suicidal ideation is an effective means ofeffective prevention and intervention inmates' suicide behavior. In order to develop aprisoners' suicide ideation questionnaire which fit for China's national conditions and prisonsituation, to explore the correlation between suicide ideation and depression, social support,effective a way to explore prisoners suicide ideation intervention, we designed three studies:Study one based on summarizing the documents, investigating of open-ended questionnaire,visiting the prisoners, the theoretic hypothesis was constructed. According to it,the studydesigned a questionnaire of prisoners' suicide ideation; in study two,761prisoners wastested by questionnaire of self-designed suicide ideation questionnaire, Self-rating DepressionScale(SDS) and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), and the study explored the characters ofprisoners' suicide ideation, as well as the Correlation between suicide ideation, depression andsocial support; study three randomly selected two groups of prisoners who with higher suicideideation, one of the group was carried out group training, and the effect of intervention wereassessed after the intervention. The main results of three studies are as follows:(1) The self-designed questionnaire of suicide ideation of this study was entirely accordwith the request of psychometric; the questionnaire had good reliability and validity, whichcould be used as a measure tool in measuring prisoners' suicide ideation.(2) The self-designed questionnaire of suicide ideation was constituted by the fourdimensions as suicide factor, avoidance factor, physical behavior factor, positive factor.(3) Prisoners' suicide ideation has significant differences on family's economic situation,the time already served, marital status, education level, the main cause of action, disease; andit was opposite to age, prison terms, times, begotten, urban and rural areas, has or no career. (4)After group counseling,the measurements of pre-test and post-test after of theexperimental group have significant differences, and its after measurement compares with thecontrol group has significant differences too, that the experimental group has a betterintervention effect; but the experimental group on the positive factor intervention effect is notsignificant, positive factor in the control group were significantly different.
