Citizenship, which origins from Ancient Greek and Roman philosophers format the Republicanism paradigm which value duty more. And the other one,which origins from thinkers of the Enlightenment in modern Europe, format the Liberal paradigm which value rights more. The two paradigms have laid the theoretical foundation for modern citizenship. Citizenship concentration the linkages between individual and political community through rights and obligations, then it become an import social community ties. Citizenship provides a link between national identity and ethnic identity within the nation-state.Citizenship brings an integration opportunity of national identity and ethnic identity. Perspective on citizenship, national identity and ethnic identity have a new meaning, citizenship create a new bond for the integration of two, that is, citizenship and civil rights, the common cause and civic responsibility, common culture and collective memory, what's more, it has formed a new model for the national and ethnic identity that citizenship and civil rights is as the base, the common cause and civic responsibility is as the power, the common culture and collective memory is as the relying. The achievement based on the realization pattern of citizenship may be subject to three main factors:the sophistication of mechanism on the achievement of civil rights, the participation and development of the common cause, the balance of the diversity and consistency on common culture.Though the analysis of identity construction models come from foreign countries and Chinese history, we can draw up some inspiration which are better to nowadays. If China want to build a new model of national identity and ethnic identity which is based on citizenship, we should try it mainly in the following ways. First, to strengthen citizenship education, emphasizing a civic identity which means equality, universal and no difference status. Second, to establish a social objectives that to devote to the common cause, make every effort to build socialism with Chinese characteristics. In addition, to build the common spiritual home under the guidance of the socialist core value system. Finally, to enhance the comprehensive national strength and international status, in order to strengthen the civics' sense of pride and glory.
