This thesis aims to study Russia's and China's strategies in Africa in the new century by conducting a comparative analysis of the strategies in order to offer Russia a better strategy based on the research's results. A comparative analysis'approach to the problem helps to more clearly emphasize the strong and weak points of the two countries strategies in Africa and gives a vision of how the better strategy for Russia should look like. The research found out that China's strategy in Africa is more successful than Russia's, what is due to dissimilarities in the strategies per se which are introduced in Chapter2and a number of internal and external factors affecting the strategies that are given in Chapter3. As a result of the comparative analysis of the dissimilarities and factors Chapter4offers measures that can be used in the Russia's better strategy in Africa in the near future. The research is an attempt to evaluate the Russia's strategy in Africa by comparing it with the strategy of another developing country and great power. The outcomes of this thesis may give a basis for further researches on China's and Russia's strategies in other developing regions, especially in Central Asia.
