In this paper, the author studies the active role of Problem Teaching Method in breaking through the restraints of the conventional teaching model and displaying fully their initiative. The subject of the study is the students from grade two of Panjin No2 Senior High School.The Problem Teaching Method is mainly applied in teaching scientific subjects. But it is seldom applied in literal subjects, especially in English teaching. Thus, teachers of literal subjects have to apply this teaching method of their own subject, using questionnaires and SPSS software to compare the results of the two classes, in the meanwhile, to explore an applicable problem teaching method.On the basis of explaining the substance of Problem Teaching Method, this thesis introduces the trend of contemporary English reading course teaching, analyzes further the status of the domestic reading course teaching in senior middle school and put the Problem Teaching Method and the English reading theories into practice.This paper also offers an example of practical teaching designed for Unit 3 of SEFC Book 5 to make full use of Problem Teaching Method in senior school to teach reading comprehension. Conclusion is succeeded in obtaining the analysis of the status in teaching test. In conclusion, the Problem Teaching Model applied in senior school's English reading course is adapt to the requirement of our epoch, to the thinking features of senior school students and to the requirement of the latest Curriculum Standards and modern reading course teaching theories. It is helpful to improve students'reading comprehension and English thinking ability.
