The thesis attempts to use Marxist theory to improve the quality of the ideological and political education in universities of China by drawing on the successful experience of the ideological and political education in America.The author adopts the literature review and the comparative method in the research. And there are six chapters in this paper.In the first chapter, the author introduces the meanings of choosing the research topic, analyzes some concerning research, defines the related concepts and discusses the significance of the present research.The second chapter expounds that the cultivation goals in the ideological and political education of China and America are training qualified people to meet the needs of the country. Through the comparison, some similarities are found in the goals, such as the development direction, the content and the methods, while the differences are found in the political orientation and training location.The third chapter introduces the contents in the ideological and political education of China and America separately. The content of the ideological and political education of college students in China reflects the socialist core value system, which shows an interactive entirety of the education in ideal and faith, patriotic education, the civic moral education, and quality education. These five kinds of education manifest the feature of collectivism. And the differences lie in the dominant ideology, the political culture and the diversity. Meanwhile, the contents both reflect that the dominant ideas and the nationality are increasingly emphasized, the universality of the quality education is being improved and the intrinsic value of the ideological and political education is expanding.The fourth chapter presents respectively on the ideological and political education of college students in China and America. The Chinese college students are characterized by emphasizing the explicit aspect, while the American college students are characterized by emphasizing the implicit aspect. The comparative analysis indicates that educators of China and America all emphasize the teaching skills of the ideological and political education and integrate the education with different kinds of social activities. In addition, they pay more attention to students'counseling, the educational function of campus culture and the role of the mass media. Still, the differences of the educational methods can be found in the guiding theory, the organization of classroom teaching and students'activities, the foundation of the social activities and so on. These all show that there are some differences between Chinese college students and American college students in implicitness and explicitness.The fifth chapter focuses on the management systems. The ideological and political education of Chinese college students is the unified-leadership management system and the ideological and political education of American college students is the separation-power management system. The governments of China and America both place emphasis on the guidance and management of the education. They continually improve the management systems and professionalize the educators. However, there are some differences between the quality, leadership and organization of both management systems.Therefore, from the comparative study of the ideological and political education of China and America, some suggestions and implications emerge. First of all, it's important to reinforce the education in patriotism in order to cultivate the national spirit. Second, it's also important to promote the reform of the educational methods to improve the implementation of the infiltrating education. Third, the paper explores the new carrier and advanced ways of the ideological and political education of college students. Fourth, educators should pay attention to the guiding function of religion and make use of it in the ideological and political education. Finally, to keep optimizing the social environment can help reinforce the ideological and political education. In conclusion, based on the above aspects the ideological and political education of China will be improved.
