In Our Student Volunteer Service And Countermeasures

Volunteer service of Chinese college students has gone through decades of development from Leifeng Volunteer Activities in the 1960s to the Olympic service in 2008. During the period, the numbers of volunteers have been steadily increasing, the service ranges have been widened and the service features have been much more prominent. Thus the volunteer service has become an integral part of our social life, which not only grows as an effective carrier for the ideological and political education in the universities, but also plays an active role in promoting socialist spiritual civilization and constructing a harmonious society. Nevertheless, there are still many problems in this field, such as students'low involvement, low service level, disordered development, a lack of atmosphere of respect for voluntary service, restrictions on its development in scope and in depth, etc. These problems are restricting the sustainable development of college students'volunteer service. In this article, beginning with elaborating and analyzing the causes of these problems in terms of student factor, school factor as well as social factor, along with the successful experience in the foreign countries, the author tries to explore the optimization of the volunteer service and, meanwhile, proposes some constructive and referential measures, for instance:they have to enhance volunteers'understanding and know clearly about its significance; they have to reinforce the education and training and help the volunteer service develop extensively; they have to establish a long-effective mechanism; and they have to better its support system.
