GCE-A is a norm test of selecting students, it also is a kind of certificate test that is conducted by the awarding body which is independent of government and school. The AQA and CIE are the larger awarding body. This paper analyses GCE-A assessment mode taking AQA and CIE for example in five aspects, using both the qualitative and quantitative method, to have some reference and inspiration for the National College Entrance Examination in China.The first aspect is theory study of the property and function of the a-level test. The second aspect is analysis of the operational process of a-level test. The third aspect is chemistry content study, qualitatively analyzing the content and structure of the content standard and test, especially the experiment, as a particular part, is independently analyzed, while the porter method is used to quantitatively analyze the alignment between the content standard of chemistry and the test both of the AQA and CIE. The forth part is the case of the Singapore education, studying how the Singapore successfully uses the A-level model to develop their own education under their national situation. The last part is the ideas for the revaluation of National College Entrance Examination in China. The author summarizes the history and the new development of the college entrance examination in China, uses the analysis of the experience of the aboard assessment mode above, then has an imagination of college entrance examination of China in the future.The study has the following conclusions:(1) independent awarding body. The operation of GCE-A organizes by regulatory body, awarding body and school. The awarding body is a kind of charity body that is independent of the government and school. (2) The content of exam is wider and deeper. The difficulty of the content of GCE-A Chemistry is higher and the range of the content is wider, the structure of the content is clear and has specific requirements for students. The content of GCE-A Chemistry focuses on the experimental test both in experimental design and practice. (3)The test paper has a large quantity and a high quality. The content standard is consistent with the exam. The test paper has more objective questions, less subjective questions. The test paper focuses on the use of quantitative methods, highlighting the ability of knowing and drawing the maps. (4) The experimental test focuses on practice. The Specification has the specific experimental assessment objective; the test uses the method combining both the written and practical test and the test with the usual performance and the test. (5) the alignment between the content standard and the test is just fine, the author uses the porter method calculating the P value according to the formula, PAQA=0.66, PCIE=0.74(the standard P=0.96), as the alignment of CIE is slightly better than AQA. Although both of them have a gap with the standard P, still acceptable.The study focuses on the analysis of GCE-A assessment mode, the imagination of college entrance examination in China is too elementary and need to be improved.
