Nowadays, in the Senior Middle School English teaching, English vocabulary teaching is paid more and more attention to. However, in realistic teaching, being lack of the guidance of the theory of SLA and language teaching, vocabulary teaching hasn't achieved the ideal effects.Guided by the principles of "English Curriculum Standards", the author attempted to discover the effects and significance of applying cooperative learning to vocabulary teaching, aiming at exploring a new way to teach vocabulary effectively.In the beginning, the researcher investigated the current situation of vocabulary learning both in the experimental class and the control class by using the pre-test. Then the author adopted a series of cooperative ways of vocabulary learning. During the research, the author traced the development by interviewing individual students and keeping teaching diaries. According to the changing situation, the author adjusted the teaching strategies properly. At the end of the research, the author analyzed the participants' post-test achievements and the results of questionnaires, finding that the experimental class have achieved greater progress. Based in the result, the author investigated the subjects' attitudes towards vocabulary teaching combined with cooperative learning, which shows that the subjects are not afraid of learning vocabulary.In the one-term research, the author employed tests and questionnaire to collect data, both qualitative and quantitative. Facts regarding the research have shown that the achievements of the subjects who learn cooperatively are better than those who learn individually. The method also stimulates students' learning interest and motivation, develops their positive affect. In the cooperative study atmosphere, the comprehensive qualities of the subjects have improved. Having analyzed the research results, the author explored the effective approaches to applying cooperative learning in future vocabulary teaching, expecting to update the teaching theory of English teachers and improve their teaching methods to a larger extent.
