In order to meet our needs of high-level application-oriented expertise for social and economic development, change the single type of engineering degree and improve the academic degree system of China,In October 1997 the degree management office of the State Council made an announcement to implement the Master of Engineering (ME) degree program(Degree [1997] NO.54), some colleges were approved to carry out the training of ME and had authority to award degree. This program not only has enriched the graduate education and training programs,but also has met the requirements of industrial enterprises and industrial construction to improve engineering education and training of engineering graduate students. Education of ME started at the end of last century in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). USTC insisted on the strategy for building a world-class university during a decade development. For major strategic needs and economic construction of our country, USTC run school in cooperation with various industries and large-scale enterprises based on the education philosophy of superb quality, moderate scale, all-win mode, sustainable development, social service and brand building. A curricular system had already been established with the background of cross-disciplinary science and engineering, and training work of ME was going on actively in accordance with their own characteristics.This article elaborates that software engineering, control engineering and safety engineering of USTC carried out the training work of ME not only for national economic and social needs, but also for industrial and professional competitive capacity. Taking it for example, we compared different industry-oriented training mode of ME.This article is composed of three sections: (1) we investigated the mode and trait of ME based on the training work in software school in terms of training program, curricular system, management system, engineering practice, thesis, faculty, etc, and bought forward the quality control methods depending on the training environment and professional competence; (2) we analyzed the differences on the aspects of supporting disciplines, faculty, industry cooperation and teaching implement among three distinct engineering fields as software engineering (School of Software Engineering), control engineering (School of Information Science) and safety engineering (State Key Laboratory of Fire Science); (3) we raised Master of engineering education put forward opinion and countermeasure research.Through research it is aimed to find out the countermeasures and suggestions about the key to the training of ME for the industry demand.School-enterprise cooperation in co-culture of ME is an important way to train high-level qualified engineering and technical personnel.The process of training ME is a complicated system.ME training program developed by college must be closely linked with socio-economic development.Therefore college should change the traditional concept of graduate education to a new concept by setting new goals and developing some education and training systems in order to educate the application-oriented talents with competitive in order to meet industry demand.In summary,colleges and universities should meet the needs of national economy and industrial development.Also they should use teaching and research resources,social forces,flexible models for the personnel selection and training to speed up the training of industrial technology professionals.
