Music appreciation education is an essential part of high middle school art education. Centering on aesthetic education, it cultivates students'positive aesthetic interest, taste, ability and idea. Since artistic appreciation course was started in high middle school in 1996, music appreciation education has been an important segment of esthetic education in basic education system, playing a role of connecting and linking. Meanwhile, teachers in this course from all schools have also begun research and exploration on music appreciation teaching.Along with the project of"3+X+1"started in some provinces and cities since 2007, music knowledge has become an important evaluation subject in entrance exam to university. Thus, high middle school music education turns to be an official exam subject, no more unessential.It is a sign of progress in all-around development education.Though 16 years have gone since 1996, after researching and investigation, we've found that high middle school music education is still in probing period. Music appreciation lessons are properly established in high middle schools all over the country, but there are obvious problems, such as no sufficient professional teachers or equipments and no satisfying education result. Situation in less developed areas is worse.Based on analysis of 400 essays specialized in high middle school music appreciation teaching and investigation in 4 local schools, I've got an intensive impression of current situation. Most of schools give one lesson every two weeks in first two years, and all focus on exam in third year. Music appreciation mode established in first two years turns to be music exam mode then. Exam papers practice is still the most widely used strategy. Every effort is for entrance exam.Problems in high middle school music appreciation are rooted from entrance exam. Only if revolutions or changes happen in the exam system, these abnormal phenomenons could disappear. Moreover, teachers should change ideas and methods, and improve interaction with school supervisors. This is a key segment in all around development education.
