Social development has brought up a new requirement to school education that through education students become their own educators, which brings school education a new challenge. Faced with this challenge, a new model of class came into being, that is, independent class, in which people form independent learning ability and independent learning habit. On the basis of current studies of independent class at home and abroad, this research redefines "independent" from views of philosophy, sociology, psychology and pedagogy, and based on these different views of definitions, the concept and connotation of independent class are brought forth, the features are analyzed and the significance of constructing independent class to teachers and students is made clear. Finally, such relationships in independent class are discussed as that between teaching and learning, independence and rules, between individual students and that between display and knowledge seeking. And some suggestions are proposed for teachers dealing with these relationships in class.
