Reading teaching is an essential part of English teaching in senior high schools. Its quality is an important factor in affecting students'scores in university entrance examination. In the past, researchers did lots of investigations from the perspectives of vocabulary and syntax. But only a small part of the research is related to reading teaching. However, the quality of English reading teaching cannot be improved immensely because of some existing problems. Therefore, according to the actual situation of senior high school, the author aims to reveal the exsiting problems by investigating the influencing factors and explore the subjective and objective factors which affect students'reading ability. Thereby, recommendations in reading teaching are proposed from a new point of view.This study analyzes the influencing factors in reading teaching by taking English teachers and students of Grade One and Grade Two from a senior high school in Changchun as investigation objects. Focusing on three issues, the investigation questionnaires combined with interviews are used as research methods. By collection, classification and analysis of data, the study thoroughly clarifies the status of reading teaching; analyzes the influencing factors of English reading teaching; proposes recommendations which can improve senior high school English reading teaching.The result shows that: teacher factors, teaching material factors and student factors are the three aspects influencing reading teaching. The current problems are: teaching concepts are mistaken; reading strategy guidance is not comprehensive; students'psychological factors are ignored; students'interest in reading is insufficient and their reading speed is slow; students'awareness of reading strategies is deficient.In addition, the students report that they are short of appropriate reading materials. The author's teaching recommendations are: teachers update teaching concepts, improve the literacy, change teaching strategy, help students develop good reading habits, teach reading strategy according to students'actual level, pay attention to students'personality and psychological factors and conduct teaching with specific target. Furthermore, teachers should work in groups, such as teaching and research sections, collect and classify reading materials then gradually form reading material data base.
