Objectives To examine the reliability and validity of Chinese version of the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ) developed by Buss and Perry. The application of the scale was assessed by performing among Chinese adolescents.Method The BBAQ developed by Buss and Perry was translated into Chinese version firstly. The methods of focus group discussion, expert consultation were used to form the initial questionnaire. In the last, the BBAQ consisting of 29 items was established. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the reliability and validity of the scale among 2757 undergraduates in Chaohu and Anqing city, Anhui province. Item analysis also was performed. We tested the reliability and validity of the modification scale once more. In the subsequent study, the modification scale was used as a major tool to assess aggressive behaviors among adolescents; the cut-off point was set as the 75 percentage of total scores based on the entire population, which defined as high level of aggressive behavior. Results According to the results of statistical analysis and experts'comments, the initial questionnaire was established , which contained 6 dimensions and 28 items. The validity of questionnaire was valued well. Results from confirmatory factor analysis indicated that 6 major factors were extracted and their cumulative common variance was 52.00%. The value of Cronbach'sαcoefficient and split-half reliability coefficients respectively were 0.884 and 0.810. Results from application study showed that average score of BPAQ was 68.48; some family factors such as : good relationship with father, parents expected fitness were preventive factors of aggressive behaviors among two colleges'students; and unhealthy loss-weight behaviors(OR=1.56, 95% CI: 1.18-2.07) and overeat (OR=1.53, 95%CI: 1.23-1.91) were important risk behaviors of aggressive behaviors. Conclusion The Chinese version of BPAQ had been valued well, having content reliability in two colleges'adolescents. However, the further validation studies need to perform in represent samples. Family factors such as the relationships with parents were assessed as risk factors of aggregative behaviors, which should be focused in further studies aimed at improving adolescents'psychological well-beings.
