| Teachers are required to change their concept of teaching textbooks into that of teaching with textbooks in the New Curriculum Reform.Under the circumstances,it’s necessary for teachers to redevelop textbooks and teach with textbooks creatively.However,teachers have puzzles about how to use textbooks creatively in their teaching practice.This study is intended to research senior English textbook redevelopment in curriculum implementation,with the aim of guiding English teachers in senior middle schools.Textbook redevelopment refers to processing and handling the textbook goals,textbook contents,English resources,teaching aids and teaching methods again.Its purpose is to make the textbooks adapt to specific situations and eventually facilitate teaching and learning.After researching and analyzing the history and present situation of the textbook redevelopment,this study discusses theoretical basis of textbook redevelopment,including second language acquisition theory,learning theory,curriculum analysis framework theory of Goodlad,needs analysis theory and teachers’ professional development theory.This study also investigates the current situation of specific use and redevelopment of NSEFC(New Senior English for China)among English teachers from senior middle schools in the City of Ji’an through questionnaires and semi-structured interview hoping to get information about teachers’ attitudes towards textbook redevelopment and problems they have in textbook redevelopment.Meanwhile,it discusses dimensions and factors teachers consider when redeveloping textbooks and the methods adopted as well through the analysis of New Senior English Book for China and investigation.By analyzing and summarizing the questionnaires and semi-structured interview,the study shows that New Senior English for China is basically accepted by teachers.However,there are some shortcomings in it.Firstly,some contents are hard to stimulate students’ interest.Secondly,the difficulty level of materials does not conform to the students.Besides,the study shows that most teachers conduct textbook redevelopment,while their redevelopment lacks standard and scientificity.This study puts forward strategies about textbook redevelopment from four aspects,which are establishing the principles of the textbook redevelopment,analyzing the factors that influence textbook redevelopment,grasping the methods of textbook redevelopment and deciding dimensions of textbook redevelopment.Meanwhile,more resources and training chances are advised to be provided by educational administration.The purpose of analyzing and discussing the textbook redevelopment in theory and practice is to help senior middle school English teachers to redevelop textbooks effectively,and finally promote teachers’ and students’ development. |
