Along with the development of the times, the social and informational environments that people face with has become more and more complicated, which is the most significant characteristic of global information age. In an age with all kinds of overwhelming information, the extracurricular activities of young children have almost been occupied by media resources. This fact deserves people's further thinking about how to make public media play an active role in the growth of young children. Except for the efforts of public media on this issue, schools also need to study how to adjust their educational contents and approaches so as to utilize the advantages and the influence of media to promote the physical and mental growth of children.In our studies, the media-assisted ability-oriented curriculums were opened among medium and high grades at west five school in Changchun according to the pioneered Experimental Course Instructions of Media literacy Education in Elementary Schools. The traditional class-teaching methods with the assistance of multimedia were employed with 40 minutes per class. The performance of students and their points of interests at class were observed. From the viewpoints of both mass communication and pedagogics and by means of qualitative and quantitative analysis, effective ways of media education in elementary schools were discovered from practices, and the advantages and disadvantages of Experimental Course Instructions of Media Education in Elementary Schools were also summarized. During the experimental teaching and research, the feasibility and resistance of carrying out media-assisted ability-oriented curriculums in the education systems of elementary schools under current educational situations of China were uncovered. Accordingly, our research group made some feasible advices on the curriculum design of media-assisted ability-oriented education according to China's actual conditions and current educational situation. It is a long and tough process to set up the media-assisted ability-oriented educational system. To realize the goal of lifelong ability-oriented education for all, the efforts from schools and the attention from the government and the whole society are needed.
