Over ten year's development, distance education has bloomed into the backbone of further education. The quality of distance education has also become one of the most important content of distance education administrative institutions, as well as the key factor of sustainable development of distance education administrative institutions. As the direct receiver of distance education, in the process of receiving service, students will have an ideal standard of service and acceptable bottom line, wherein is the tolerable zone of service quality. In the tolerable zone, the sensitivity towards its service quality is relatively low, while out of the tolerable zone, the sensitivity goes severe.This thesis analyzes the position, current situation, and development of distance education, through the empirical research and analysis of the tolerable zone of distance education service quality in Southwest Jiaotong University, along with reviewing the relevant theories about tolerable zone of service quality, and on the basis of collecting extensive documents. It also makes score quantification according to the top and bottom limitation of distance education service quality, and establishes SWJTU distance education service quality evaluation index system.In the meantime, the author asked the enrolled students of School of Network Education of SWJTU to answer questionnaires regarding tolerable zone of distance education service quality. Finally, the author makes basic statistical analysis of the collected data through SPSS20.0statistical software, works out the width and weight coefficients from all dimensions of tolerable zone of SWJTU distance education service quality, concludes the service quality of SWJTU distance education, and provides tolerable zone theory with some technical supports in the area of education industry. It also provides the administrators of network education institutions the basis and standard to improve distance education service quality.
