Communication is a special activities. All the educational activities are carried out through the teacher-student communication. Communication is a special kind of educational activities. Educational activity, in essence, is specific communication practice between teacher and student. Starting with the attention to the essence of education and the specialty of the vocational education, adopting the method of questionnaire together with that of the investigation through interviews, this paper seeks to investigate the present status of the teacher-student communication in secondary vocational schools. And after that this paper discusses the methods and ideas on how to build the teacher-student understanding relationship. The main ideas are listed as follows.In The first part of it defines the writing background, research methods and the meanings of this study and summarizes the related theories and literatures of the communication between teachers and students.In the second part, this paper defines the related concepts, expounding especially that of the communication between teachers and students and summarizing the essential characteristics of that communication.In the third part, the author summarizes the present situation of the communication between teachers and students in vocational schools in the form of questionnaire survey, revealing the problems of the teacher-student communication in the vocational schools: (1) Teachers and students are lack of understanding each other. (2) They are lack of informal communication. (3) Students have psychological distance and fear the teachers when communicating with them. (4) Teachers discriminate the students. (5) Teacher-student communication is focused mainly on the cognitive aspect and ignores the emotional one. Then the paper goes on to expound the roots of the above problems in the teacher-student communication. (1) The prejudicial understanding of the student's role in the relationship between teachers and students in traditional education ideas has blocked the communication between them. (2) The secondary vocational school students have specific psychological characteristics. (3) The size of the class is often too big. (4) The teacher-student communication pays more attention to the tool values than the objective ones. (5) Society has also prejudices to the vocational school.On the basis of empirical studies and the reflections on the opinions of the teachers and students, the fourth part of this paper summarizes the strategies of the construction of teacher-student understanding relationship in vocational schools: (1) Teacher should establish the correct idea concerning the teaching and students. (2) They should love their students. (3) They should be in good faith to their students. (4) They should learn to be more tolerant. (5) They should treat all students equally. (6) They should interact with the students in harmony on the class teaching. (7) They should increase the frequency of interaction and communication with their students.In the conclusion part, this paper gives a summary of the whole study, indicating the intention of it and pointing out the possible limitations and shortcomings of it as well.
