The evolution of spatial economic structure has its own rules. The typical case study is an important method for the evolution of spatial economic structure. Based on data investigation, mathematical models, and mapping using GIS software, the dissertation do some research on the evolution, mechanism, and integration of spatial economic structure of Northeast China since 1990s. This dissertation is divided into five chapters.Chapter one, elaborate the background and significance of the study, review the current literature on this subject and the shortcomings of the studies. Following the situations, this dissertation attends to study the evolution of spatial economic structure in Northeast China.Chapter two, first introduce the definitions of spatial economic structure, the evolution of spatial economic structure, and the evolutionary mechanism of spatial economic structure. Second, comments on the theories of the evolution of spatial economic structure, include Location theory, Regional Growth Pole Theory, Core and Periphery Theory, and Pole-Axis Theory.Chapter three, take a visible measurement over the evolution of spatial economic structure of Northeast China and the spatial correlation of the economic growth. Firstly, makes a judgment of the economic development stage in Northeast China. Secondly, do some research on the evolution of the economic centre and the regional development equilibrium of Northeast China since 1990. The conclusion are drawn as follow; There is obvious spatial deviation of the economic centre in Northeast China; The economic centre moves from northeast to southeast, to northeast, and then back to southwest again; The regional development polarizes severely. Lastly, analyze the spatial autocorrelation of the economic growth in Northeast China. The type of economic growth area is divided into diffusion area, polarization area, transition area and low growth area, in Northeast China. Compared 2000-2009 to 1990-1999, the number of cities increased and area expansion, in diffusion area, polarization area and transition area, accordingly, the number of cities and area decreased in low growth area.Chapter four, has an analysis of the current state of spatial economic structure in Northeast China, as follows: The core-periphery structure significantly; The distribution of cities concentrated in central and southern; The scale of central cities too small. On these bases, discuss the principles of the integration of spatial economic structure. Point out that, at this stage, Northeast China should be taken unbalanced development model, and the main objectives of the integration are establish a scientific city level system and a complete pole-axis system.Chapter five, including the theoretical implications, conclusions and discussion.
