The process acceleration of the global economic integration makes a wider scope of technical exchanges between domestic and foreign enterprises, more and more large-scale engineering projects like petrochemical, metallurgy, power projects implement at home and abroad, the large-scale and heavy-scale of the equipments has become a new trend. However, these projects involving a range of equipments procurement and delivery activities, making the communication in the fields of equipments, products and technical exchanges more frequent, this has also provided a broad market for the bulky cargo logistics.Generally, multi-model transports are using in the international bulky cargo logistics, the route is long and the bulky cargos are valuable, the process is affected by vehicles, route conditions, transit nodes and other elements, any omission occurring during the logistics operation would cause bulky cargo great damage, and affect the progress of engineering projects seriously. At present, there are series of inappropriate problems such as transport structure irrationality, transport modes improperly links in the bulky cargo logistics multi-model transports, so how to choose the best program of the transports in order to ensure the success is the primary problem which the logistics decision-makers should consider.Firstly the article summarizes domestic and foreign literatures on bulky cargo logistics and route choice & optimization, obtains the literature review about the development of bulky cargo logistics theory and transport program choice & optimization, presents the importance should focus on the algorithm research on selection and optimization of bulky cargo transport under the multi-model transport way. Then the paper analyzes the advantage and disadvantages of the three modes of transport after the studying on the characteristic of bulky cargo logistics system, describes the organization and operation of the logistics and the process of transport program, especially points that the international bulky cargo logistics uses multi-model transport, which reflecting the correlation between the bulky cargo logistics and the multi-model transport. On this basis, according to the network characteristic of multi-model transport system, the virtual network of transport is established in the paper, the selection of transport program is in fact the combinatorial optimization problem of the route and the modes in the virtual net after the analysis. Fully considered the time, the cost and the node of every two cities in the virtual net, the paper sets up the mixed integer programming model to select the multi-model routes and modes. The paper uses Genetic Algorithms method to solve the model due to complexity. In the algorithms, the natural coding method is applied, the crossover and mutation operators is altered by adaptive probabilities. Finally, the example of Irish National Chemical Fertilizer Plants moving with door to door way is referenced, using the model algorithms, the example transport program was solved with the best optimal solution of transport route and modes according the real data. According to the case, the model of the paper is proved which can well handle various routes and modes of transport combinational optimization problem, and will get a good result using Genetic Algorithm efficiently. At the same time, the paper also concludes that road transport is more appropriate than rail transport in bulky cargo land transport because of the high cost and long time spent in the transit.The paper sets up the bulky cargo logistics program selection and optimization model considering the transport routes and modes together, composites the impacts of transport cost, time and transmit condition between city nodes in the virtual net. In particular the use of the Matlab software writing program in computer to solve the problem bulky cargo logistics transport program selection is a certain innovation.
