Study On Application Of Six Sigma Methodology In Valve Manufacturing Industry

Currently China is in the transformation from a big manufacturing country to a powerful manufacturing country. Study on quality management is important and imperative. The Six Sigma management helps enterprises to strengthen market awareness, customers'awareness, enhance ability for continuous improvement, improve quality, and improve business performance. Taking a valve factory as a certain case, applications of Six Sigma management in manufacturing industry in China was researched in this dissertation.Firstly, some knowledge on Six Sigma was outlined in the paper, including its origin, development and application in different country, together with DMAIC way of Six Sigma and some Six Sigma tools. By using Six Sigma theory and tools, research on valve factory's inventory was made. Following technological process of DMAIC, the production process and management was defined and measured. Then after using of brainstorming and flow charts, cause and effect diagrams and other related quantitative methods, the author determined three factors existing in the management in the factory, these are production plan being not fine, information flow being not efficient in the production process and high inventory in the production process. On this basis, the author put some measures to solve these three factors, including making a flow to speed up information flow, making an inventory. Besides, by using some models, production plans were turned fine, thusly yield and production cycle were promoted. In the control part, some flow were modified and established to solve these three factors. And by making clear job responsibilities, all rulers and systems has been enforceable. Finally, in the evaluation part, by comparison of data before and after implementation of the project, it indicated that inventory of the factory have been well controlled after a year's Six Sigma renovation project.
