Compared with the traditional industries, tourism has great advantages in providing jobs, boosting domestic demand and the creation of foreign exchange earnings, and because tourism is not a single industry, its related a lot of other industries, the development of tourism has great significance in promoting the rapid development of the tertiary industry and regional economic restructuring. In many areas, the tourism industry has become a pillar industry for economic development, enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry to become a regional economic development strategies. This paper aims at finding out the advantages and disadvantages of Huanggang tourism industry by using scientific evaluation, and providing the basis for the relevant management departments to targeted development strategy.Based on the extensive related literature and data, the thesis establishes a regional tourism competitiveness evaluation index system by using the theory of comparative advantage and competitive advantage theory. The index system considers the source and formation mechanism of the competitiveness from three different sides, which are the competitive strength, the potential to compete and the supporting system. Then, chooses the method of principal component analysis, evaluates the selected indicators and ultimately come to the competitiveness of the tourism industry rankings of Wuhan city circle's 9 cities.Finally, using the theory of SWOT, identifies the tourism industry's advantages and disadvantages of Huanggang city. Specific proposals are: cultivate leading enterprises, optimize the product structure, highlight the local characteristics of tourism products, enhance the technological content of products, improve the overall quality of tourism employees and against local protectionism.
