Risk Management Study In AC R&d Project

With rapid boom of air conditioning (AC) market in China, AC new product development becomes one of the most important parts of key competency of AC Company. More and more risks appear in AC R&D projects since there are new challenges like short time to market, mixed new technology, complex of structure, large investment and long lead time, big cross functional team work…Thus need a good solution for risk management.This thesis explores the study of the project risk management of AC R&D projects by studying AC R&D project nature, AC R&D project practice, risk management knowledge and lesson learnt from past projects. This thesis reviews the AC R&D procedure and potential risks. Through the analysis way of risk management, it introduces the way for risk factor and risk identification, risk assessment and risk prevention, then focus on how to use risk management tool like Benchmarking, DFMEA, Expert Score etc to assess and control the project risk, and then designs a Phase Gate Review System which addressed the method of architecting the system, metric of score board and mechanism for implementation in AC R&D projects. Finally we practice our solutions in an actual AC R&D project, DC inverter air condition system development project, to illustrate the various phase and techniques for effective project risk management.
