With the implementation of the western development strategy, our country has been progressively elevating the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi and Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone to the national strategy height, and viewing the three economic zones as the most important engines to support and drive rapid and healthy economic development of the west.The west is absolutely weaker when compared with the east and the mid, moreover, as the economic locomotive of the western area, the three economic zones still exist a great many problems in the industrial structure. It is of high importance to change the economic develop mode, accelerate the optimization and upgrade of the industrial structure for the three economic zones. Thus, how to improve industrial structure of the three economic zones, how to cultivate economic activities with local characteristics and competitive industries, as well as how to improve their leading roles in the economic development of the west are questions needed further research.Quantitative analysis and standardized methods are adopted to analyze status and characteristics of industrial structure, regional differences, as well as the export-oriented economy in the three economic zones under the background of the deepening of western development strategy. The main intention is trying to find ways to adjust and optimize the industrial structure of the three economic zones.First, based on regional economics and industrial economics, the paper firstly elucidates and induces theories including location, growth poles, industrial structure evolution rule as well as industry structure adjustment, then sums up relevant experts and scholars' research in different areas to the west recent years. The aim is to provide actual operative theory support to study the industrial structure of the western three economic zones.Second, by using qualitative analysis, the paper introduces the formation background, the geographical scope definition of each economic zone. Meanwhile, the roles of the three economic zones in the western development are presented. Following, local characteristic and advantages of each economic zone will be illustrated.Third, the paper compares and analyzes the three economic zones from the following aspects:three industrial structure, the process of industrialization, the efficiency of the industrial structure and the degree of openness. The result shows that there are many problems existing in the three economic zones, such as slow speed of employment structure adjustment and industrialization, apparently dualistic economic structure and the poor performance in openness.Fourth, according to the analysis and conclusion of the three economic zones, the paper suggests adjusting and optimizing the industrial structure by following ways:(1) striving to develop local characteristics and competitive industries; (2) lifting capability of independent innovation; (3) weakening the dualistic economic structure; (4) strengthening cooperation both in home and abroad.The paper originally puts the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi and Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone together and analyzes them from the industrial structure aspect. Furthermore, the paper also places prime emphasis on the local characteristic and competitive industries, with expecting to help the three economic zones play excellence roles in the western development strategy.
