Coating is the multiple functional finishing technology for textiles. It provides more additional values to fabrics, so that is widely used in apparel and industrial textiles. However, it is found that the color change due to the transfer of disperse dyes is easily produced in the local regions of fabric surface such as exposed parts of folded fabric in processing and storage. In this paper, transfer phenomenon of disperse dye on coated polyester fabrics was studied and the coating process factors were optimized. In addition, the Solubility Parameter Theory was applied to study the transfer mechanism of disperse dye. The whole study could offer some guidance in solving and relieving the color changing problems of coated polyester fabrics. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of various technical factors on dye transfer in the process of textile manufacturing and warehousing, thus to select the suitable coating technics. The structure properties of disperse dyes and polyester fabrics were studied by these evaluating indicators such as dye migration, sublimation fastness and coated PET staining fastness by coated polyesters. The impacts of kind and dosage of water-repellent agents were discussed by using dye extraction technique combined with spectrum analysis and Datacolor. The influence on dye transfer and color change in manufacturing and warehousing period by coating agent and solvent were learned through Datacolor and color fastness tests. In addition, the solubility parameter of disperse dyes, water repellent agents and coats were calculated for the mechanism study of dye transfer and color change on coated polyester fabrics. The results show that:1) The Anthraquinone Disperse Dye and SE/S Azo Disperse Dye with complex molecular and high stability were able to decrease dye transfer, so that C.I. Disperse Blue79, C.I. Disperse Red343and C.I. Disperse Orange30were optimized.2) The polyester fabric with medium orientation and crystallinity as well as relatively close weave structure could restrain the dye transfer and color change, therefore, optimized fabric was190C.3) The polyester fabrics that treated by water repellent agents were more tended to occurring of dye transfer and color change at storage period. The degree was decided by the dye transfer amounts and the affinity between disperse dyes and water repellent agents in manufacturing procedure. The Silicone water repellent agent had more influence on dye transfer and color change, so that20g/L Fluoride water repellent agent was preferred.4) The most important influence on dye transfer and color change was coats and solvents. The surface dyes produced in manufacturing procedure and the uneven volatilization of solvents were the main reason for dye transfer and color change in storage. Above all, in order to release the dye transfer and color change, appropriate disperse dyes, polyester fabrics, water repellent agent, coats and solvent were selected. In addition, the optimized coating process was as follows:100TF660mixed with1crossing linking agent,1TF690and25TOL, the coating was dried at90℃for300s, then heated at180℃for30s.On the basis of above systematic application study, solubility parameter theory was applied to explain the characteristics of color change on coated polyester fabrics among disperse dyes, water repellent agent and coats etc, which expounded the mechanism of dye transfer and color change in another perspective and provided theoretical instruction for coating technics selection.
