With the rapid development of social and economy, the demand for various resources is increasing, but the limited of the time restricted the development of economy. Faced with these problems, how to promote the harmonious sustainable development between social, economy and resources has become the most important issue. And land resources are the basic demand for people’s living and social’s sustainable development. On the other hand, the sustainable use of land has great significance for the sustainable development of the social and economy. Based on this point, land sustainable utilization in Dali prefecture has been dynamically analyzed and evaluated, what depend on the theoretical foundation of ecological footprint in this paper. In this paper, the connotation and concept of ecological footprint have been described, and instructs the calculation method of the ecological footprint by step. Then with the requirement of the count in this computational model, the paper detailed calculates and analyses the ecological footprint of Dali prefecture from2001to2010.The conclusions as blow:On the whole, the per capita ecological footprint increased from1.2285hm2in2001to2.8711hm2in2010, while the per capita ecological capacity decreased from0.5160hm2in2001to0.4999hm2in2010.During2001to2010, the per capita ecological footprint of the building land and woodland was ecological surplus, which were1.1377gha and0.6144gha respectively, and the other lands were ecological deficit. The per capita ecological deficit in Dali prefecture was growing0.206%average from0.7724gha in2001to2.3712gha in2010.Phased view the information of Dali prefecture from2001to2008, the per capita ecological deficit continued to expand, but the per capita ecological footprint augmenter has declined since2008.And the per capita ecological capacity has increased from0.4862hm2in2008to0.4999hm2in2010.The ecological deficit of Dali prefecture land was more ease than before, and the gap of augmenter between ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprint became smaller. The results showed that, although the land supply in Dali prefecture is not balanced, the land-use structure is irrational, the environment pollutes seriously, parts of land are underdeveloped, and the land use in Dali prefecture has great potential. Especially after the water pollution abatement of Erhai Lake in the11th Five-Year Plan of National Water Resources, the land use in Dali prefecture has been improved. Therefore, we need to continue to improve the land use structure and promote the sustainable development of land resources of Dali prefecture. Based on the above requirements, some strategies and suggestion are proposed to solve the problems in land use in Dali prefecture:first, optimizing of land use structure; second, improving the efficiency of land use; third, strengthen the construction of the land ecological environment; fourth, improving the related policies of the land use; fifth, promoting the management of the land informationalized and scientifically.
