The flying shear machine is one of the most important equipment in metallurgy plate industry. And it has also been imported for a long time. With the control technology and the motor technology development, the research about the automated motion control of a flying shear is also in the development. A flying shear is the equipment that can cut materials in motion from the horizontal and meet the need of users’fixed length. Firstly, this paper introduces the flying shear machine structure and its production process. Then, the general design requirements are given according to the features of its production process. This paper offers a motion track control model, and the position curve is also constructed by a five order polynomial. The polynomial coefficients can be calculated by interpolation method and the boundary conditions. Meanwhile, the software of a flying shear motion control system is designed by Siemens SCOUT software. In addition, the hardware platform of this system is also designed. The core control of this hardware system is not PLC but SIEMENS motion controller-SIMOTION. And the hardware platform is composed of SIEMENS motion controller-SIMOTION, driver-SINAMICS S120, servo synchronous motors and so on. Finally, the feasibility of this solution is demonstrated by analyzing all the measured curves and data from experiment equipment. It can improve the cutting precision and ensure that the machine runs smoothly.
