Carbide circular saw machine is widely used for the bulk of saw cutting blanking because of a consequence of high cutting efficiency and superior cutting precision, while metal cutting is an important process of raw material cutting blanking. In this paper,some basic research has been done for the cutting process of GKT608circular saw machine, and sawing process mechanism were invested, which involves the theoretical calculation of mechanical parameters, the experimental determination of the main motor power, the DEFORM-3D finite element cutting simulation.The mechanical parameters of circular saw cutting process were calculated with the mechanics of metal cutting theories and methods. The structure parameters, motion parameters and the metal plastic deformation parameters were considered during the calculating, and the data of sawing process mean sawing and mean cutting power were obtained.Further studies on the mechanism of sawing process were conducted using DEFORM-3D finite element software for cutting process simulation. The sawing force and cutting temperature were obtained by taking the saw blade to bar diameter maximum as simulation time. Contrasting the average cutting forces of simulation to the results of theoretical calculation, results showed they were consistent indicating the accuracy of simulation models.Real time active power of main motor of circular sawing machine was tested to verify the theoretical calculation of mechanical property. The real time data of the line voltage, phase current, phase voltage and active power of main motor were obtained, employing multi function power meter, current transformer, etc, by on-line testing of different working conditions. The experimental results demonstrated that the average active power of main motor were in accordance with the calculated results.From the accordance of theoretical calculation and experimental testing to the accordance of theoretical calculation and simulation, the theoretical calculation and the DEFORM-3D finite element simulation were confirmed as practicable methods for investigating the mechanism of sawing process.From the three methods above we use, it is helpful for the design of metal circular sawing machine and processing optimization in the future; also the force of the sawing machine can be calculated accurately; the processing parameters can be optimized; and it is convincing to help design new sawing machines.
