Mineral pigments had a long history as inorganic pigment on textile dyeing. Though synthetic dyes took the place of mineral pigments, the environment was polluted seriously because of synthetic dyes extensively used, so the mineral pigment came back again. As there is little interaction between fabric and dispersant, the mineral pigment and fabric should be modified in order to get the good dyeing effects. The poly (maleic anhydride-co-vinyl acetate) copolymers (PMV) were prepared by solution polymerization with maleic anhydride and vinyl acetate as monomers, azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. The effect of monomer ratio, concentration of initiator, reaction temperature and solvents on the monomer conversion was discussed, respectively. The poly (maleic anhydride-co-vinyl acetate) copolymers were saponified in sodium hydroxide solution. The effect of saponified time, saponified temperature and NaOH concentration on saponfication degree was also investigated, respectively. The results showed that, the content of MAn in copolymer increased with the content of MAn monomer increased, but the increasing trends were slowly, and the content of MAn in copolymer was less than50%. The monomer conversion was increased with the increasing of initiator concentration or reaction temperature. The saponified degree increased with the increasing of NaOH concentration, and obviously affected by NaOH concentration, however, it was slightly affected by saponified time and temperature. The mineral pigment was grinded by planetary ball mill and mixing sand mill. The effect of dispersant concentration, grinding media ratio, pulp and grind media ratio, and grinding time on the particle size was investigated, respectively. The result showed that, the particle size decreased with the increasing of dispersant concentration, grinding time or the amount of grinding media. When grinding media were composed of different sized Zirconium beads, the particle size became smaller. Epoxy chloropropane was emulsified by different emulsifiers, and then the emulsified epoxy chloropropane was dipped or padded to modify the fabrics. The modified fabric was dyed by the mineral pigment after grinding. The effect of dyeing on different fabric modified by emulsifying epoxy chloropropane showed that anionic emulsifying epoxy chloropropane had the better dyeing effect, while the fabric had better dyeing effect when it was modified by padding.
