Building Urban Identity Of Tianjin From Urban Design Management

James Trafford phill,a famous specialist in Urban Studies,had said that:"Technology transforms the portrait of the city but reputation found the character of it."Instantly,most of the urban construction in China is in charge of reputation ignoring the character of the cities as technology transforming the look of them.Cities in China are in short of being thought deeply of their character and orientations on the way of being constructed to show their unique feature.So the results are far away from the ambitions.A obviously secret to the development of a city is its own peculiar charm.But in China, cities’ special features are dying out, and thousands of cities are becoming more and more similar.This is a disaster in urban scene. Based on the crisis of urban identity,this paper discuss the creation of urban characteristics based on basic substance aspect,which begins from the architecture’s concern about the crisis of urban identity.Firstly,the article expounds the background of the urban identity crisis,and the dilemma of urban identity,defines the concept of urban identity,studies the attribute of urban identity.After clarifying some basic problems,the author points out that the scope of the urban identity in this article is mainly about the urban architecture characteristics;Secondly,the author discribes the composition of urban characteristics both in natural and human factors,and analysis the control point for architecture.Basic on this,the article gives the way of the creation of urban identity:take Sydney Opera as a example to explain that constructing a landmark building is a mean to shape the city character and take Chicago as a example to explain that designing the city’s skyline is another way to form the nature of a city and so on.In the last part of the article,combining with the overseas practice on urban design guidelines,the author argues the effect of urban design guidelines,discribes its definition, classification, and formulate principles,and takes the city design guidelines of Tianjin city as the applied achievement of the dissertation,with the hope of finding a way of sculpturing urban characteristics.
