Notoriously, the operation safety of the power network requires the power equipments always keep reliable. However, due to the effect of lighting strike, temperature and inside overvoltage, the insulation system of the equipments is gradually aging which can cause the equipments partial discharge. Without any restoration measure afterwards, a destructive breakdown would occur in the insulation system, and even we would encounter a large range of power outage. The on-line partial discharge monitoring technology has recently become an active research topic because it can detect the insulation defects of the operating equipments.The communication system is one of the key components of the on-line partial discharge monitoring system. In this paper, we propose a new communication technology based on ZigBee, GPRS and USB by considering anti-interference, the amount of the transmission data, and both low requirement of transmission rate and real-time interaction.We designed a communication module for the sensor in this paper. The MCU of the sensor uses the chip of ARM7 LPC2292 and the communication module consists of ZigBee module, GPRS module and USB module. Besides, according to our study on ZigBee technology, we designed a ZigBee wireless communication network which worked on 2.4GHz ISM, and we used cluster network topology as the bottom network. CC2530 designed by TI is used to build node circuit of hardware. Finally, we implement the node software under IAR based on ZigBee 2007 protocol, and establish a cluster network of multi-nodes based on our analysis of ZigBee protocol.Our ZigBee nodes grid test, GPRS module test and data communication experiments show that the proposed approach by this paper is feasible, and data transmission with various communication methods can overcome the disadvantage of traditional wired transmission technology.
