Urban rail transit, because of its large capacity, high speed, good security, punctualarriving, environmental protection, energy saving and land conservation, is usualy ableto use for solving traffic congestion problem in the big cities especilly in the mega-cities,and becomes the significant strategic choice to achieve sustainable development ofurban transportation. In recent years, it has also gradually been the key point of thedomestic transporation infrastructure in large cities. Since the construction of rail transitis a huge infrastructure project with large investment, long construction period and slowcost recovery, the government serving as the long-term investors has a relative heavyburden. Moreover, the interaction and joints among rail transit construction, urban spacelayout, land use along the rail line and the traffic integration are the increasinglyprominent problems. Therefore, the researches on urban rail transit and thecorresponding land use along together with their comprehensive development is of greatsignificance for speeding up the urban public transport construction, further to promotethe coordination and sustainable development of the city.On the basis of the relevant basic theory and classic case studies, the basic statusquo and development trend of urban rail transit construction and land usecomprehensive development are both involved in this research, in which the project ofNanning Urban Rail Transit Line1is emphasised on. It is stressed the discussion andinnovation of the planning theory, the use of technology, overall strategy and measures,the station orientation and comprehensive development, land use control andtransportation integration. In brief, the main research is concluded as follows:Firstly, for the rail transit construction and urban development, based on typicalcases of large cities throughout the world, detailed analysis of rail transit construction iscarried out concerning with the inter-influence and interaction of the aspects to citydevelopment including the leading of rail transit to the land development of itssurrounding areas,and that between urban transport and population as well as industrialdistribution.Secondly, great efforts are done with study on comprehensive developmentstrategy and countermeasures of urban rail transit and the corresponding land use along:the importance of land integrated development are summarized, then the main problemsarising in the integrated development of urban rail transit and land use along are discussed in details through cases studies; Meanwhile, the modes of landcomprehensive development along the urban rail transit are put into forward as well asthe overall development strategy and countermeasures.Thirdly, it follows the case study of Nanning rail transit line1: on the basis of thebasic theoretical research and the typical case study allover the world and combinedwith the actual situation of Nanning, the main problems involved in the rail transitconstruction and land use comprehensive development are taken into account frommacro, meso, and micro-view in accordance with the three levels of overall rail transitnetwork, the influence scope of line1, its stations and surrounding areas. In the end,measures and suggestions are produced to guide related work and provide references forthe analogical projects.Last but least,the achievements and shortcomings with respect to this research aresumarrized,the recommendations and some further efforts which can be considered inthe future work are presented as well.
