Barrier-free Environment In Shaanxi Residential Design Study

The barrier-free facilities are important infrastructures which are getting more attentionin the developed cities nowadays. Residential buildings, as a main part of Barrier-free project,should be considered by hardware respect and software respect to obtain professional andtargeted practice guidance for achieving a barrier-free living environment.Shaanxi residential housings have distinct local feature and traditional customs. In thebackground that social structure changing acutely and living needs of people improvingquickly, reforming and constructing new style residential housings become an urgent affairnow. However, Shaanxi residential buildings are lack of barrier-free design ideas and the basiclife condition. Therefore, this dissertation focuses on combined with the local culture ofhousing to bring in the ‘barrier-free living environment design’ ideas. This research firstlydiscusses the foundations, drawbacks and developing strategies of barrier-free environmentsby investigating the North of Shaanxi, Guan Zhong district and the South of Shaanxi from thegeographic environment, culture environment and current architecture status. This dissertationalso analyzes the relationship of each area’s residential housing environmental features andthe barrier-free environment constructing. Finally, the exploration of relevant people andbarrier element is shown specially.The methodology of this dissertation includes measured drawing, investigatedphotograph and essay writing. Finally, this research will give the intuitional data and modelanalysis as well for providing the source of barrier-free residential housing reforming andconstructing.
