With the rapid development of economic globalization and information integration,especially the deepening application of the three-dimensional CAD technologies, Modelbased Definition (MBD) of digital design and manufacturing technology have becomethe development trend of the manufacturing information. MBD is a new generation ofproduct definition methods pushed by Boeing Company. Relative to the traditionalapproach to design, it has incomparable superiority on improve productive, reduce costs,ensure the uniqueness of the data and so on. But there are still some problems in theapplication of MBD technology at present, especially lack of three-dimensional designspecifications.Keeping in step with the advanced standards at home and abroad, China shouldcarry out the national standardization research and development on three-dimensionaldesign of MBD. It’s urgent to solve the new standardized problems by using MBDtechnology.This paper is supported by the project”Research on the key technical standards ofthe pattern rules and management based on the MBD technology for the mechanicalproducts”. This thesis comprehensively investigated the key technology and applicationof MBD-based three-dimensional design standards for mechanical products. The maincontents can be described as the following:1. Discussed the basic concepts and development process of the MBD technology,Then, pointed out the advantages and the problems of the MBD technology;2. Proposed the standard model and system framework of the”three-dimensionaldigitization design and management based on the MBD technology for themechanical products”, and analyzed the technical standards involved in thesesub-systems;3. Researched on the key technologies of the three-dimensional design based on theMBD technology for the mechanical products, including view angle, fonts andproportional, expression of leader lines and reference lines, dimensioning,representation of the accuracy characteristics, drawing of the section line, pictorialsimplification, etc; 4. Studied the3D Annotation function of the Mainstream3D CAD softwares. Based onthis, made some secondary development, and evolved a set of the3D annotationassistant tool;5. Conducted a pilot application of this series of standards and the3D annotationassistant tool by using a typical mechanical product.
