The container terminal is the connection point of the containershipping with the other kinds of transport. The yard is the distributioncenter of the containers. Its container throughout ability is directly affectedto the operating efficiency of the whole terminal.The new container yard is the logistic channel that lies between theseaside and the landside. According to this feature, this paper develops adynamic storage space allocation planning model with an objective tominimize the imbalance of the equipment occupation time in the blocks. Arolling horizon approach, considering the loading and unloadinginformation of the containers, is used to solve the problem. Then aheuristic algorithm is designed to solve the model. Furthermore, theallocation probability is considered. The results show the use of equipmentoccupation time to substitute the workload in the blocks is more reasonableand optimal. And the improved algorithm is more effective. And then theconstraints that based on the limitation of the transport channels are added.And a new storage space allocation model that considered the channellimitations. A heuristic algorithm and a tabu search algorithm are designedto solve the problem respectively. Finally, the results show the tabu searchalgorithm is more effective.The study is valuable for improving the efficiency of new container handling system. The method proposed in this paper can also provide anallocation strategy of the transport channels to the terminal. Therefore, thefurther promotion can provide some references to the operation of theautomated stereoscopic warehouse with multilane.
