Characteristic Research Of Traditional Resident Dwelling In Xupu Dist Rict In Hunan Province

"I become hesitated when I am entering Xupu and I become confused where I should go to. The forest is deep and dim, where the monkeys live. The mountains are so high that they cover the sun, the foothill is gloom and always with heavy rainfall. Snowflakes descend slowly and lightly as far as eyes can see, dark clouds seem to gather to press the eaves."The Shejiang has ranked as a masterpiece throughout the ages; a poetic masterpiece through the age. Xupu, which was recorded by Qu Yuan, has a special location, long history and deep cultural deposits. In the towering and steep mountains and forests, Xupu has kept its own regional characteristics, special styles, beautifully-constructed traditional resident architecture. This architecture, because of its own artistic glamour, attracts many specialists and scholars’attention; meanwhile they are disappearing very fast from people’s field of views. Therefore, to make investigations and mappings, to leave specific text and picture material and to choose representative resident architecture of high-value in time are of great urgent.In this article, the author starts from current situations of local resident life and its regional characteristics to make deep investigation into Longtan town, Wufeng villiage, Yangquepo Villiage; and the author made research and analyses of traditional residents in Xupu and its deep causes. The author also summarized regional characteristics of Xupu resident architecture to provide reference for traditional architectural elements and architectural vocabularies in future architectural creation, meanwhile, the author provides some views and strategies for protection and update of excellent resident dwellings; and the author spreads the protective principles and strategies to other traditional resident dwellings in Huaihua. The article has been divided into seven parts.The first part is exordium which analyzed the purposes and significances of research Xupu residents, current situation of traditional resident dwelling research and its results in China and application introduction of research approaches to provide theoretical guidance and foundation. The second part is to introduce historical reform, economy, culture and customers of Xupu district thus to lay foundations for following introduction to regional characteristics of traditional resident dwellings.The third part makes specific analysis of village features and component elements of Xupu residents; and it also makes generalization and summarization of cultural and spatial imageries of its village. The fourth part, based on results of part three, analyzes plain form, space form, spatial arrangement and artistic conceptions of monomer resident dwellings of different regions in this district and investigates its causes; this part also discusses about traditional construction methods, tignum and construction mechanism. The fifth part summaries decorative art of Xupu resident dwellings from the angles of architectural decoration skills, types and features. The sixth part is summary of the whole article. It generalizes historical and cultural value of Xupu traditional resident dwellings, provides some views and strategies for protection and update of well-protected resident dwellings in Wufeng villiage and Yangquepo Villiage and spreads the protective principles and strategies to other traditional resident dwellings in Xupu.
