As a special building, Tunnel are used to overcome topographical constraints, improve highways linear, shorten driving distance, or to avoid some of the geological disaster-prone areas, which can achieve the protection of the ecological environment, save energy, save time, improve the social and economic benefits.Road specification required for the tunnel Gradient are as follows:longitudinal slope of highway tunnel should be designed between0.3%and3%. The length of tunnels is less than100m should not be limited by this rule. However, in some limited terrain the exhibition line disadvantaged areas or construction Gradient tunnel has great value for money, whether it can select construction of big Gradient tunnel, a problem worthy of study.In this paper, a research of large longitudinal slope tunnel and analysis of car climbing process, we have got the applicable conditions of large longitudinal slope tunnel option. From the view of operational safety, we obtained the method for determining large longitudinal slope gradient, slope length and design speed. According to the oversized gradient accident analysis, we have got large longitudinal slope operational safety influencing factors, thus we obtained oversized gradient tunnel operational safety risk assessment methodology. and based on the project for operational safety risk assessment, based on the level of risk, and initially proposed large longitudinal slope the tunnel operator safety safeguards. Programs of the tunnel project selection and construction, as well as the engineering design of the tunnel has a certain significance.
