Our study examined the anesthetic effects of propofol on dogs and its effects on canine physiological functions. The experiment was divided into two parts:introduction of anesthesia by single intravenous injection and maintenance of anesthesia by continuous intravenous injection. The results proved that propofol had a desirable muscle-relaxing effect, and a preferable sedative and analgesia effect during introduction of anesthesia. When maintenance, propofol had a sound sedative effect over its analgesia and muscle-relaxing effect. The blood was collected at lmin,3min,5min,7min,9min and llmin after introduction of anesthesia, and at2min,5min,15min,25min,35min,45min,55min,60min,90min after maintenance. The samples were tested for indicators consisting of eighteen hematological indicators, four liver functioning indicators, two kidney functioning markers and eight blood gas indicators. The result showed during the entire process of introduction and maintenance of anesthesia, no effects appeared in acidity-alkalinity, iCa, TCa(P>0.05); however, the effect on Serum potassium was significant (P<0.05). In addition, the level of AST, ALT and ALP had no significant differences. The concentrations of Cr pre-and post-anesthesia were significantly different (P<0.05). The concentration of BUN did not change significantly.
