Researches on national nature reserves of China have great significance on enhancing the construction of the reserves. In the present study, based on the collected data, the quantitive characteristics of the reserves, the relationship between function zones and species and the fragmentation of national nature reserves were analyzed by means of mathematical statistical analysis e.g.variance analysis, multivariant comparison and correlation analysis. The main findings are as follows:①Results showed that the national nature reserves in China covered an area of up to9.49×105km2until March2011. And as to the number of the reserves, the forest ecosystem were the most and the prairie meadow were the least; as to the area of the reserves, the desert ecolsystem were the biggest and ancient relics were the smallest. What’s more, the distribution pattern of the reserve area presented the trend that the area were gradually on the decline from west to east and from north to south.②Since1965, there are five stages of development of the national nature reserves. Recently, the rate of increase of the number and the area national nature reserves has declined. It indicated that the development trend was changing quantity to quality.③Results indicated that the ratios of core zone of several protection types were higher than buffer zone and experimental zone, they are desert ecosystem, wild animal, trace fossi, forest ecosystem and sea coast ecosystem. As to buffer zone, except for wild animal and desert ecosystem, the ratios of buffer zone of other protection types were hihger more than that of experimental zone of these protection types. Also, some protection types’experimental zone is higher than core zone. They are grassland and alpine meadow, geological relic, wetland ecosystem and wild plant. In detail, the variance analysis showed that there were nonsignificant differences among the proportions of the areas of three function zones to the total area in each type of the reserves.④The correlation analysis showed that, in the species-protected reserves, there was significant correlation between the total area of the reserves, area of each function zone and number of species, plant or animal species, respectively.⑤Results indicated that there were significant difference in the fragmentation degrees among the different of different protection types of national nature reserves of China. Compare with the main vegetation types of the whole landscape in different area, the fragmentation degree of wetland ecosystem is highest in Northeast area;.the fragmentation degree of forest ecosystem is highest.in Central China; The fragmentation degree of wetland ecosystem is highest.in southwest China; The fragmentation degree of wild animal ecosystem is highest in North China and the fragmentation degree of forest ecosystem is highest in South China.
