The new late hybrid variety of A You338was selectively bred by Huanggang Academy ofAgricultural Science. As a breeder for new varieties, it’s quite necessary to learn more about theircharacteristics, build an effective system of high-yield cultivation and seed production technology, so asto guild production and promote application properly. To this end, our project observed thecharacteristics of A You338in detail, and focus studied the simple and labor-saving seed productiontechnique of the combination. The main research results obtained are as follows:1、The Restorer Line R338has excellent features such as stout stem, high seed setting rate, bigspike, fine rice grain quality, good tillering and combining ability, sufficient pollen and so on. The CMSLine A4A has characteristics of excellent appearance quality, high amylase, low chalkiness ratio, strongtillering ability, neat spike-layer, moderate plant type, stable sterility, and large glume-opening angle; Itsstigma is of medium size, with long viability and high total exposure rate; it is sensitive to gibberellicacid and the reproductive yield is high.2、By testing and analyzing the technique of direct planting of female parent in rows, we foundthat maternal direct seed production is conducive to the formation of larger storage capacity, andspikelets of female parent per unit area has improved greatly, which lays the foundation of high-yielding.For the high-yielding seed production techniques of female-parent direct planting of hybrid rice, thestrategy emphasizing on enhancing outcrossing rate with due consideration to grain weight should beestablished. Effective approach to determine the appropriate sowing interval of the parents accurately isrequired, so as to ensure that the parents’ flowers meet in full-bloom stage. Also, great attention shouldbe paid to cultivating strong male parent and improving the pollen density, as well as other relatedtechnology works, such as dividing rows and tilling land, fine sowing, preventing weeds, fertilizing andwatering properly, cleverly spraying920, et al. These efforts will surely bring forth the desired effect ofsaving cost and increasing production, and finally the ideal economic benefit.3、In this combination, a simple and labor-saving way for seed production is followed. That is,we use seedling transplanting technology for the male parent, while take direct seeding in rows for thefemale parent. The sowing time difference between the parents is about25d. Under the conditions ofappropriate sowing time interval, a seeding quantity of45kg hm-2would be helpful for getting anideal seed yield, and it is unnecessary to increase the seed quantity so as to save production cost.4、According to the mathematical statistics method, if we define the leaf age of female parentVariable X, and the male parent’s leaf age Variable Y, we can get a corresponding regression equation.That is:=6.52+0.75x (r=0.994, Sy/x=0.42leaves). In a seed production site, if the cultivationconditions are relatively stable and the arrangement of parents’ sowing interval and flowering stage aresimilar as above, this regression equation not only can be used for flowering period prediction, but alsoprovides information about the time difference between the parents’ leaf age in sowing period—that is,for A You338in autumn season, the parents’ leaf age difference is about6.5leaves. 5、For the combination, whether in CMS line reproduction or hybrid seed production, thefollowing techniques can be used to identify mixed plants. That is, in heading and flowering stage, wecan use the method of “Seven Sees”: first, to see the time of heading; second, see the panicle enclosurelevel; third, see the ratio of exserted stigma; fourth, see its sensitivity degree to920; fifth, see the colorof anther; sixth, see the shape of panicle; and seventh, see the color of lemma tip and stem base. Beforeharvest, they can be identified in three aspects—the seed setting rate, the grain size, and the regularitydegree of the spike layer.6、The simple and labor-saving seed production technique for female parent in rows has manyadvantages. For example, it can save labor, time and cost; it is also helpful to increase yield and income;and it shortens the growing process which promotes earlier ripe. However, problems such as incidentalfarmland weeds and easy to lodging and difficulty of field impurity removal also exist.
