The Investigation And Study On Current Situation About Chinese Teaching In Higher Education Of Metro Manila In Philippine

This article investigates the current situation about Chinese teaching of highereducation in Metro Manila of the Philippines. It studies the Chinese teaching situationof the seven universities in Metro Manila, and analyzes the problems and difficulties,as well as the reasons about the problems in these universities. The ways to solvethese problems are also proposed in this article.The results of the survey show that there is no Chinese major in any Universityin Metro Manila. Chinese courses are offered as an elective foreign language inuniversities. There are seven universities offering Chinese language courses, one ofwhich university established Confucius Institute. There are about25teachers, a largenumber of students in this region, and a few varieties of the Chinese text books usedin this region. Currently, the main problem is the shortage of teachers and the textbooks. The reasons of these problems related to the education system and thedisciplines in the Philippines. Another reason is that local Chinese teacher cannot betrained in Philippines.This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. It refers the background and the purpose, as well as the research methods of this paper;chapter two is about the related research; chapter three describes the situation aboutChinese teaching in seven universities in Metro Manila, the problems about Chineseteaching in these universities and the reasons are also explained in this part. There isalso a brief introduction about the Confucius Institute in one of the university. Chapterfour is the way to solve these questions; chapter five is the conclusion of the researchas well as the shortages of the study.
