With the development of global economy, the exchanges between China and therest of the world have become more and more frequently. Bilinguals play an importantrole in those communications.However, bilingual education in China, cannot meet the communicativerequirements for bilinguals. It is restricted for short of bilingual teachers and bilingualteaching materials. It is said that teacher is the basic factor of the education program, sobilingual teachers’ professional development is the key factor to bilingual education. Inorder to ensure the development of bilingual education, we have to establish a bilingualteacher team, which is made up by highly qualified bilingual people.The easy investigates the present situation of primary school bilingual teachers’professional development in Chongqing, aiming to find out the reasons that block thedevelopment of bilingual teachers. The author puts forward some advices, hoping tosolve the problems and help promote teachers’ professional development.Chapter one is the introduction part, which mainly introduces the study reasons ofthis essay. Meanwhile, this chapter gives a brief introduction about the structure of theessay.Chapter two is the literature review part. After defining some relevant coreconcepts, this chapter introduces some theories about the professional development ofteachers and bilingual teachers. Based on the recent study results, this chapterexpounds the inner structure of the professional development of bilingual teachers inelementary school.Chapter three introduces the study methods, objects and procedure of this essay. Inthis paper, interviewing method and questionnaire are used to investigate the presentsituation of bilingual teachers’ professional development. Elementary school bilingualteachers in Chongqing, including in-service and pre-service teachers, are taken in as theresearch object. This essay focuses attention on the objects’ professional attitude,professional competence, professional knowledge and training to learn about the presentsituation of elementary school bilingual teachers in Chongqing.Chapter four summarizes the weaknesses of the present situation and analysis thereasons of these problems, aiming to find out the root reasons of the problems in theprogress of elementary school bilingual teachers’ professional developments. This chapter basically solved these questions as following: what the present situation ofelementary school bilingual teachers’ professional development in Chongqing is, theproblems in these teachers professional development and their causes. The aim of thischapter is to make a real objective description on the current situation of the elementaryschool bilingual teachers’ professional development in Chongqing.Chapter five gives some advices to improve elementary school bilingual teachers’professional development in Chongqing.The last part is the conclusion.
