With the sustained, healthy and rapid development of China’s economy, thedeepening of reform and opening up and growth of China’s comprehensive nationalstrength, international exchanges are increasingly frequent in the field of politics,economy and culture etc. As a bridge to serve the reform and opening up andcommunicate with the world, the role of interpretation become more and moreprominent in the process of the “going out” or “bringing in” activities.As members of the BRICS, China and India are the most dynamic economieswith the largest populations in the world. At present, China is India’s largest tradingpartner, and India is China’s largest trading partner in South Asia Area. China andIndia are similar in basic national conditions and level of development. Economies arehighly complementary. In terms of economy sizes and development potentials, thereis still huge room for development in bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Insuch international background, interpretation will play an irreplaceable role in theeconomic and trade exchanges which become increasingly frequent. With thelocalization and nationalization of English, Indian English has formed its uniquefeatures in all aspects. For interpreters, being familiar with the features of IndianEnglish will eliminate linguistic barriers and ensure the quality in interpretation.As an interpreter, the author finishes the consecutive interpretation for theEconomic and Trade Promotion Seminar of Jilin Province,China in New Delhi, Indiaon December20,2011. This is a practice report. Firstly, the author briefly introducesthe detailed preparation work, including the collection of relevant information, thedevelopment of glossary. Secondly,by comparing the original and the interpretation,the author figures out the typical mistakes in the interpreting process. Thirdly,basedon these mistakes, the author analyzes the problems and their causes. The authorpresents a summary in which a serial of conclusion has been drawn in terms of how touse tactics to fulfill the interpreting task and deliver a successful interpretation. Basedon the experiences in India, the features of Indian English are summarized to facilitate future interpretations.
