Since the reform and opening-up policy was implemented three decades ago, thevigorous cooperation has been strengthened in such areas as politics, economy, culture,education, science and technology, resulting in the steady rise of China’s internationalposition. Especially joining the WTO in2001, China has carried out comprehensiveexchanges and cooperation with other countries. The growing economic and culturalexchanges have given birth to a huge interpretation market. The interpreters begin toemerge, as the bridge of cultural communication, playing a critical role in developing themutual understanding between countries.As economic globalization promotes the interaction of people of differentbackgrounds, the requirement of the interpreters’ qualities has been heightened more thanever.Meanwhile, due to the flourish of the interpreting practices, a group of high-standard,professional interpreters are in great demand in China. This situation has drawn attentionof the scholars in this field. However, much to the regret of the booming interpretingindustry, the latest studies seldom use the concrete interpreting examples in their analysisto guide the interpreting teaching.Under the circumstances, this thesis aims to set a comparative analysis of theprofessional qualities of an interpreter based on an actual case of field interpreting, bydemanding several groups of interpreting learners to simulate the interpreting at2010World Economic Forum. Due to the distinctiveness of the interpreting job, the author holdsthat the interpreters must pay more attention to the quality promotion to shorten the gapwith the first-rank interpreters.This thesis consists of four chapters besides the introduction and conclusion.The introduction briefly makes a literature review, and introduces the main content andgeneral structure of this thesis.In the1stchapter, the thesis introduces the origin of interpreting and the relationshipbetween translation and interpretation, to reorganize the general acknowledgement ofinterpretation. In the later part, there is a classification in interpretation, to further comprehend the characteristics of interpreting, in order to help the reader have a clearacquaintance with it.The2ndchapter is mainly about the preparation of the research.The3rdchapter is about the research result and corresponding analysis. It is the mainpart of this thesis which consists of three related sections concerning in the corpus.After the systemic introduction, we use the research materials to make a comparativeanalysis of the interpreting, and then focus on the professional qualities that a qualifiedinterpreter needs. In the4thchapter, the thesis may give three strategies in cultivatinginterpreting talents using the data in the3rdchapter and taking the current situations intoconsideration.At last, the thesis concludes with our prospect to provide more qualified, high-level,applied interpreters for the interpreting market to better adapt to China’s development, andmeet the demands of the socialist modernization and further promote the interactionbetween China and the foreign countries.
