Along with fast globalization, international exchange increases. Owing to differences on geographicallocations, histories and languages, different countries show distinct cultures on value systems, religionsand lifestyles, which demonstrate different cultures’ uniqueness. Under such a context, how do we realizean equal dialogue system? How do we minimize conflicts and boost mutual-understanding? As we allknow, it is people who undertake cultural exchange. Therefore, we need composite talents withinternational viewpoints, with multi-cultural open mind and with strong cross-cultural conversation ability,in order to realize equal dialogues in the tide of globalization. The ultimate purpose of cross-culturalteaching is to cultivate students’ open mind, help them understand different cultural and value systems,enable them the ability to listen different voices, and strengthen their cross-cultural communicationcapacity. Hence, cross-cultural teaching gives a new mission to teaching Chinese as foreign language in theglobalizing time.The paper includes the following parts:Part one is introduction, which starts the discussion from research meaning, status and method, basedon today’s global situation and national needs.Part two starts from the popularization of Chinese. It reviews the history and current status of China’steaching Chinese as foreign language, and its new development and changes.Part three explains cross-cultural teaching in teaching Chinese as foreign language. It shows therealistic meaning and social value of strengthening cross-cultural teaching in teaching Chinese as foreignlanguage, and analyzes its major teaching methods in tables. Part four borrows the method of cross-cultural teaching, and designs a teaching plan based on movieGua Sha and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as teaching contents. It shows how to realize cross-culturalteaching by way of movie analysis.The final part is conclusion, which summarizes the realistic meanings of cross-cultural teaching inteaching Chinese as foreign language, and confirms the contribution of movie analysis to cross-culturalteaching.
